Family Health Insurance - most affordable cities

The first national report on the largest cities in the U.S. with the most affordable health insurance options for families was released today by eHealthInsurance, the nation's leading online health insurance source for individuals and families. Thereport, titled Most Affordable Cities for Family Health Insurance, ranks Kansas City, MO as the city with the most affordable health insurance nationwide, with plans as low as $171.86 per month, or $43 per person for a family of four. The other cities at the top of the list of Most Affordable Cities are(2) Long Beach, CA; (3) Columbus, OH; (4 - a tie) Tucson and Mesa, AZ;(5 - a tie) San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Fresno and Sacramento, CA;(6) Omaha, NE; (7) San Diego, CA; (8) Cleveland, OH; (9) Phoenix, AZ; and(10) Los Angeles, CA. The premiums quoted for a four-member family plan inthese cities ranged from $180 to $212 per month. A key trait shared by cities with the most affordable health insurance isthe large number of health insurance options available for families. Thetop-ranked cities have at least 43 plans available on eHealthInsurance.com, enabling consumers to choose from a large number of the health insurance plans available to them.



"Choice of health insurance options can allow families to find and buy theright plan at a cost they can afford," said Gary Lauer, CEO ofeHealthInsurance. "This report confirms that affordable health plans with very good benefits are available for families purchasing health insurance acrossmuch of the country." Health insurance plans used in these rankings feature comprehensivebenefits, including annual preventive exams, lab and x-ray services, emergencyroom treatment and hospitalization. eHealthInsurance ranked the affordability of family health insuranceoptions in the nation's 50 largest cities, as defined by the U.S. CensusBureau. The health insurance plans reviewed are the least expensive availablein each city for a non-smoking family of four, including two parents (ages 35 and 37) and two children (ages 9 and 11).Each plan includes an annual deductible of no more than $2,000 in addition to 20% coinsurance, which is the amount the policyholder pays for medical services once the deductible is met. Additionally, each plan reviewed had a maximum per-family out-of-pocket cost of between $4,000 and $10,000 per year.
