WASHINGTON, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Auto insurer Progressive Corp. (PGR.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it received a subpoena from the Connecticut Attorney General's office probing possible antitrust law violations.
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it received "interrogatories and a subpoena" last Friday and believes that a number of subpoenas have been issued in the insurance industry.
"Connecticut is one of several states investigating allegations of price-fixing, bid-rigging and other unlawful conduct by certain insurers, brokers or other industry members," Progressive said.
"Accordingly, many industry companies have received subpoenas and more may be expected in the future if other states initiate similar investigations."
Progressive said it intends to cooperate fully with the investigation.
